Frequency Jones is a brand new old-school funk collective comprised of an all-star cast of Santa Cruz musicians. FJ features a rhythm section with the deepest pocket this side of the Rio Grande, a full horn section, and the nastiest, hardest-hitting funk ever to be assembled in one playlist.

Bandleader Renzo Staiano first conceived of Frequency Jones during a funk-steeped trip to New Orleans in Fall of 2008. Upon returning to his home in Santa Cruz California, Renzo began brainstorming FJ with long-time musical collaborator Justin Fagnani. The 8 to 10 piece band would be built upon a similar foundation as modern funk groups such as Lettuce, the Monophonics, and Soul Live: taking the best of the golden age of 60′s and 70′s funk, but leaving the cheese behind. The result is an intense pocket, delivered with captivating musical arrangements by some of the best musicians around. In short, Frequency Jones is good for the mind and the booty. FJ was born in January 2009 with an obscure playlist of groovy old, de-kitsched Parliament, Mandrill and Kool and the Gang covers, but has since progressed to original music. FJ has also begun to work with multiple vocalists such as Tammi Brown (Sista’ Monica, White Album Ensemble) and the Mysterious Z. Frequency Jones thrives off of the element of surprise, keeping it fresh with special guests and an ever-changing set of funky originals and covers that keep the party off the wall all night long.
