It's time to take those root note shapes you mastered, and start using them to play actual licks! Look at the diagram below. You'll see the familiar root note pattern, but now with some other notes added, a b3rd and a 3rd. On a major chord it sounds really bluesy to play both of those notes against the root of the chord. Usually, you will slide, hammer, or bend from the b3 to the 3rd to create a bluesy slur.
